Teutonosaur: 'A Sweetened Fire' (LP/CD)

from $12.00

The debut Teutonosaur album features ten crystalline songs filled with moments of heartbreak, regret, and regeneration. Filled with ebullient guitars, shimmering keyboards, and lush arrangements, A Sweetened Fire plays like a lost, almost undefinable classic. There are subtle nods to new wave, Brit-pop, 60’s jangle, and even synth-pop, but the Teutonosaur sound defies pigeonholing. Astute listeners are likely to hear sonic similarities to New Order, The Smiths, Blur, The Kinks, GBV, and Yo La Tengo, yet A Sweetened Fire plays as a stunningly original work.

The album bubbled and simmered while Baldwin attended to a full time teaching job, a pair of daughters, and the gradual denouement of a marriage. As The Smiths once said, “these things take time,” and as work on the record progressed, Baldwin began to see his work and himself in a whole new light. Shades of sadness, loss, and glimmers of hope and rebirth echo throughout the record. In dedicating himself to his own songs, David found his own voice and in turn, he has begun to chart a new path for himself.
